The My Passport SSD is Western Digital's first portable SSD. The small unit (.4-in x 3.5-in x 1.8-in) supports 256-bit AES hardware encryption and password protection, and claims read/write speeds that rival those of internal SATA-attached SSDs - up to 515MBps. The new drive uses a USB Type-C (reversible) connector and the USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) standard; it also comes with an adapter to use with the more commonly found Type-A USB ports.
Altaro VM Backup claims to be a hassle-free Virtual Machine backup solution for Hyper-V and VMware that can run your first virtual machine (VM) backup in less than 15 minutes. It was specially developed for small and mid-market organizations. Here is the pricing: Freeware (up to 2 VMs per host); $515 Standard Edition (up to 5 VMs per host); $625 Unlimited Edition (unlimited VMs per host - all features included).
With Windows Server 2016, Microsoft has introduced a lengthy list of improvements to Hyper-V and some admins contend that Hyper-V`s new killer feature is shielded VMs, which work with BitLocker encryption and a guardian service to ensure that virtual machines run only on authorized hosts. Here is a list of other improvements to Hyper-V:
- container support
- nested virtualization
- increased memory and vCPU limits
- production-grade checkpoints
- ability to hot-add memory and network adapters
Diebold Nixdorf announced it is the first ATM manufacturer ready to support the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. In addition to following the Intel and Microsoft support guidelines, Diebold Nixdorf's migration to a 64-bit operating system allows ATM deployers to take full advantage of the memory and processor features, such as advanced security. All current applications can continue to run in 32-bit, as needed. The company notes that the release of Diebold Nixdorf's Windows 10 supported foundational software packages will provide banks with plenty of time to test and certify their respective applications prior to the end of support for Windows 7 - migration to Windows 10 will need to be completed by January 2020.
Despite continued growth of credit/debit card use and digital payments, the amount of bills and coins in circulation continues to grow: Hard currency as a percentage of U.S. gross domestic product is now at 8.6%, the highest level since the early 1950s. Even as many people argue for the end of cash since they contend that it simply supports an underground economy, other are quick to point out that about 8% of Americans don`t have a checking or savings account, making it all-but-impossible for them to participate in a cashless economy.
The ATMIA has published a roadmap for ATM deployers to plan for their next operating system after the sunset of WinCE systems. Entitled “Windows CE Alternatives”, the new ATMIA paper points out that Microsoft recommends Windows 10 IoT Core as the successor OS to WinCE but conducts a thorough analysis of alternative systems, including Android, Linux and Google Chrome OS.
Juniper Research estimates that the number of people using Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay will exceed 100 million for the first time during the first half of 2017 and will surpass 150 million by the end of this year. According to the study, the combined market share of Apple, Samsung and Google (via Android Pay) increased from 20 percent in 2015 to 41 percent in 2016, as a proportion of total mobile contactless payment users. Apple Pay users nearly doubled year over year, with the total number of Apple Pay users reaching 86 million by the end of 2017 - Juniper expects Apple to dominate the contactless payment market over the next four years.
Google is looking to tightly integrate Android Pay with mobile banking apps. Case in point: Android Pay has been integrated into the mobile banking apps of several banks around the world so that users can add their cards to the mobile payment service with just the click of a button. The feature will also work for those who have not installed Android Pay on their handset, giving them access to the capabilities of Android Pay without having to leave their mobile banking app.
A former FireEye engineer has started a company called SlashNext that offers Active Cyber Defense System. They say that their system analyzes suspicious traffic as a human analyst would and allows them to detect social engineering attacks. The service features a cloud-based learning component that can help detect data exfiltration, malware, and various exploits. Customers` Internet traffic is diverted to the cloud, analyzed and sanitized before being delivered to their computers - they claim that the agent-less solution requires no policy configuration and can be deployed in about 20 minutes.
illusive Networks claims that their Wire Transfer Guard solution is the first cyber deception solution built specifically to protect high-value data and messages in wire transfer systems. With an advanced web of decoys, Wire Transfer Guard helps enhance cybersecurity by detecting, diverting, mitigating and reporting on advanced attacks. The software deploys deceptions on every endpoint in the network in an agent-less fashion. These deceptions point to the deceptions wire transfer network servers, objects, user credentials, web interfaces and more. Because there are more deceptions than actual wire transfer networks, attackers are likely to attack deceptions.

Snapchat boasts over 150 million users and over 71 percent of Snapchat users are under 34 years old. That is why some marketers consider it an ideal marketing option for organizations targeting a millennial audience. Another reason Snapchat is getting the attention of marketers is that it allows users to personally interact with brands. In order to gain followers on Snapchat, it is necessary to use your online presence as well as other social media sites to create awareness and entice others to follow you. Some organizations use the “Add Me URL” feature - share a custom URL on other social media platforms that allow other users to quickly add you as their Snapchat connections. You can also share your Snapchat username in email signatures, blog posts, and your website.
According to a recent CreditCards.com survey, cash and debit cards still dominate for small purchases, but 17% of the respondents in the survey said that credit cards were their primary method of paying for purchases under $5. A year ago, only 11% said that. Millennials are leading that trend: 21% of them said they use a credit card for small purchases, compared to 16% of Generation X and 12% of baby boomers. Meanwhile Federal Reserve data shows that credit card debt recently topped the $1 trillion level for the first time since the global financial crisis of 2008-2009.
PayNearMe`s Prism Platform Services enables banks to integrate robust bill presentment and same-day payment capabilities into their existing products. Their platform offers same-day payments for the largest portfolio of expedited billers in the U.S. The Silicon Valley-based company says that their system helps drive interchange revenue from bill payment and is mobile optimized.
While MPLS can sometimes be four to five times the cost of an Internet circuit, MPLS proponents say that it is the best choice for those who require the best quality for voice communications. Voice quality is very sensitive to jitter, and since MPLS provides a more consistent hop path, you do not need to worry about the frequent routing and switching changes that occur on the Internet. Plus MPLS carrier traffic is tagged and segmented from other users on the specific carrier`s network which makes it a much more secure medium.
In some organizations, PAM (privileged access management) is replacing legacy virtual private networks (VPNs). PAM can not only help satisfy regulatory requirements for encrypting and securing data, but also promises to streamline user access and reduce operational burdens. For example, Bomgar's Privileged Access enables IT Departments to control, monitor and manage privileged access to critical systems by authorized employees, contractors, and third-party vendors without giving them a VPN.
On average contact centers tend to see turnover rates as high as 30-45 percent, and some contact center experts say that this employee turnover costs an organization at least 25-30 percent of the benefits and salary for the vacated position. Yet a 2016 inContact Consumer Research Report found that 74 percent of agents viewed their jobs as a long-term career opportunity. The questions are: what changed and why did they end of leaving? Perhaps the only way to find out is to carry out a detailed exit interview. Once you gather these findings, contact center managers can hopefully use those insights to make some meaningful changes within their center in an effort to minimize costly attrition rates.
