Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Check Point Lead Gartner’s Firewall Magic Quadrant
Gartner crowned Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point as the top three firewall providers in its latest Magic Quadrant report. All three vendors’ now can claim double-digit firewall leader status. This year’s report marks the 10th consecutive time that Palo Alto Networks has been named a leader, while Fortinet has held a place in the leader’s square 12 times, and Check Point has earned the title 22 times.
Rockport Networks Debuts the “Switchless” Network
Rockport Networks has exited stealth mode with an intriguing product: a switchless network. It claims the Rockport Switchless Network product can move data faster and with better latency than switched networks. The Rockport Network Operating System (rNOS) runs on the network card to fully offload network processing from the compute cores and server operating system. The rNOS enables the network to self-discover, self-configure and self-heal. It continually seeks to optimize the best path through the network to minimize congestion and latency.

Microsoft Unveils Loop — and a New Collaborative Office Doc
Built on the Fluid Framework, Microsoft’s Loop app comes in response to offerings by start-ups such as Coda and Notion and their “all-in-one” collaborative documents. While it’s unlikely to supplant traditional Office docs for now, Loop previews a ‘post-Office’ world. The solution combines elements of documents, spreadsheets, and presentation apps in a single collaborative space.
Huntsman Security SmartCheck for Ransomware
Huntsman Security launched SmartCheck for Ransomware – an automated, on-demand diagnostic application designed to assess the risk of a ransomware event. The application automatically gathers data directly from ongoing security operations to report an organization’s posture against a set of security safeguards. It presents a quantitative score measured against each of 12 security controls.

ATMs/Kiosks Play Key Role in Branch Transformation
RBR’s report Branch Transformation 2021 states that there is an ongoing shift away from the teller counter to self-service channels, and both traditional ATMs and non-cash kiosks are assisting in this shift. Especially kiosks since they are able to perform a wide variety of functions such as bill payment or card issuance, and are present in the majority of the 24 markets covered in the report.

Banking Malware Threats Surging as Mobile Banking Increases
The Nokia 2021 Threat Intelligence Report shows that banking malware threats are sharply increasing as cyber criminals target the rising popularity of mobile banking on smartphones. It reveals an 80% year-on-year increase in the first half of the year in the number of new banking trojans, which also try to steal SMS messages containing one-time passwords. Banking malware has been targeted mainly at Android phones, for years the most targeted mobile device type for cyber criminals due to Android’s ubiquity and developer openness.

Digital Driver's Licenses: Are They Secure Enough for Us to Trust?
Drivers in Arizona and Georgia will soon be able to use iPhones and Apple Watches as digital licenses or ID cards. People living in Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, Iowa, Utah, and Connecticut are next in line for this transition. Security experts say that that states must use the principle of least privilege when building these digital systems. The person checking a digital license should get only enough information to complete a transaction and nothing more. Kaspersky Finds 31% Increase in "Smart" DDoS Campaigns
Q3 beat every record in terms of daily number of DDoS attacks, according to a new report from Kaspersky. The total number of DDoS attacks was up 24% compared to Q3 2020 while the number of advanced, "smart" attacks was up 31% over the same time period. Kaspersky defines a smart DDoS attack as one that is often targeted and used to disrupt services, make resources inaccessible or pilfer money.

The Pros and Cons of Virtual Queues
Many contact centers are grappling with labor shortages, surging workloads, or a brutal combination of both. Virtual queue technologies enable callers to hang up and receive a return call without losing their place in the queue. For callers, this prevents the need to leave a voicemail or to wait on hold.
