Dell just announced new lines of its Latitude, Precision, and Optiplex devices. Latitude is Dell's corporate notebook line of products, and they claim that the 9510 laptop is the smallest and lightest 15" business PC in the world at 3.1 pounds. Meanwhile, Precision is Dell's line of creative professional products and the OptiPlex line features smaller desktops.

Microsoft recently announced a slew of updates to various parts of its Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Given what the cloud can do, Microsoft says that IT Departments need to have the ability to spin desktops up and spin down on demand. They are touting Windows Virtual Desktop over traditional VDI and trying to make it quicker and easier to add/remove desktops.
Data connectivity firm Plaid, which was recently acquired by Visa, announced the launch of the Plaid Exchange (PX). According to Plaid, the exchange will provide FIs with “API connectivity in a box.” Value-adds include the ability update data when new data is available, security and network notifications, and digital roadmaps. The solution also includes a Gateway API, so theoretically a FI can use Plaid as an integration layer for data aggregators or fintechs it wants to enable access to and from.
Diebold Nixdorf, a major provider of ATMs and payment technology to FIs and retailers, recently suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted some operations. However, the company says the hackers never touched its ATMs or customer networks, and that the intrusion only affected its corporate network.

PayPal has launched payment by QR codes in the UK and 27 other markets around the world, providing a touch-free way for businesses to receive payments and for consumers to make purchases during Covid-19. The PayPal app allows customers to buy or sell in in-person, without the need to exchange cash or key in PIN codes. Using QR code technology, there is no technology to touch or purchase - users just aim a smartphone camera at a QR Code that is printed or present on another screen.

The 2020 Identity Fraud Report, released by Javelin Strategy & Research, reveals FIs’ methods to identify and respond to fraud are no match for criminals’ high-tech schemes to hijack consumer accounts. Fraud losses grew 15 percent in 2019 to $16.9 billion even as instances of fraud fell from 14.4 million in 2018 to 13 million in 2019, which resulted in consumers facing $3.5 million in out-of-pocket costs last year as criminals shifted their focus from card fraud to opening and taking over accounts.
NatWest has launched a video game to help children develop money management skills. Island Saver runs on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for PC. As players progress through the game they will be introduced to increasingly advanced elements of good money management including paying tax to maintain the idyllic Island setting, borrowing money, and even elements of foreign exchange.

The number of open banking users is expected to more than double in size, to 40 million, by 2021 from 18 million last year, according to a Juniper Research report, as the COVID-19 pandemic is increasing the need for consumers to aggregate financial accounts and gain deeper insight into financial health. Open banking is a technology that allows accountholders to access data across competing FIs or third party financial data on the same platform.
Citrix recently announced its partnership with cyber security player, Check Point Software, to roll out additional next-gen firewalls within Citrix SD-WAN. Citrix and Check Point Software already have a joint offering available in the market, which integrates Citrix SD-WAN and Check Point CloudGuard. The new offering will help develop consistent access control policies based on applications and users across network and cloud, automate provisioning of Check Point CloudGuard Edge as a virtual network function (VNF) on the Citrix 1100 appliance as well as enhance the provisioning of other security services by leveraging Citrix SD-WAN Orchestrator.
