A Google study also found that their drives ran quite well under higher temperatures. However, a Microsoft study, conducted in 2012, came to a different conclusion - their drives (from an unnamed manufacturer) failed at higher rates under higher temperatures in their data centers.

Legislators in Massachusetts Re proposing a new bill that they say would increase ATM safety. The measure would require ATMs to provide adequate lighting, card-activated doors that work, transparent glass, interior mirrors, and a panic button or reverse pin that alerts police. Many ATM deployers in the state are adamantly opposed to the bill, especially the reverse pin or panic button requirement which they contend could create a more dangerous situation or trigger a lot of false alarms.

The National Incident Response Team (NIRT) is tasked with protecting the U.S. central banking system. The crack cyber security unit is composed of about 100 government employees in New Jersey, just outside Manhattan. Among the team's most important protectees is the Fedwire Funds Service. By some accounts, the NIRT's monitoring system is so sophisticated that if a Federal Reserve employee at any of the system's twelve regional banks connects an unauthorized phone or other device to their work computer, the NIRT will be alerted and, if necessary, confiscate the computer and run forensic tests on it. The team offers eight different security services to the Fed board and its reserve banks, primarily security monitoring, forensic analysis of traffic flows and attempted cyber attacks, and alerts and warnings about potential threats.

Some observers believe that community banks need to widen their lending and new customer horizons and consider a somewhat taboo group of consumers: those who have filed bankruptcy and have been recently discharged. They recommend avoiding repeat filers and focus marketing efforts on those who have only filed one time for extenuating circumstances such as job loss, medical issues, divorce, etc. They argue these people can have positive characteristics:
- they have little to no debt
- they can’t file again for up to seven years
- their loans pay higher yields

Fiserv announced that they will be offering a suite of services to help with EMV issuer strategies, personalization, transaction processing, risk management, and consumer and bank education. The company can help issuers determine how much of their card portfolios should receive chip cards and at which dates. Meanwhile, Fiserv’s Accel electronic funds transfer network supports the technology needed to process EMV debit transactions whether the cards carry a Visa or MasterCard label.
FIS announced the launch of FIS Instant Card which allows banks to instantly issue ready-to-use credit, debit or prepaid cards to customers in the branch. Viptela is focused on building a more dynamic, agile WAN. The start-up company just announced what it is calling the Viptela Secure Extensible Network (SEN), which enables organizations to deploy, manage and secure WANs easily and cost effectively. Viptela’s solution is based on two components: a vEdge router located in the branches and a vSmart controller, which is the data center component. The solution is then tied together with the vManage Network Management System. Basically their goal is to bring software defined networking to the enterprise WAN.
Talari Networks announced APN (Adaptive Private Networking) 4.0, the latest version of the operating software that supports Talari’s WAN solutions. APN 4.0 can now support 256 sites (up from 128) with a single instance of the Talari solution. The company's WAN solution builds a detailed map of all paths through the WAN including a real-time understanding of packet loss, latency and jitter on each path. The APN solution then uses this information to direct WAN traffic down the optimal path based on network conditions and organization policies.
A tag cloud is a visual depiction of frequently used words, typically on a website. For contact centers, a tag cloud depicts words or concepts that come up within the context of caller interactions. customer service reps generate tags based on their calls, and those tags that are being used more frequently appear in a different font color and size. This allows agents to quickly see what topics are trending throughout the contact center and can provide insights as to caller needs. Tag cloud proponents say that they are valuable because they allow supervisors and agents to see at-a-glance what is trending which in turn helps them identify the best products and services to sell, and more efficiently troubleshoot caller issues in real-time.
